As a teacher, what are the major plus points for working here?
The Canadian Pre-University Program at Taylor’s College is a very well organized program that is happy to help its teachers meet their own career goals. Teachers are usually given the opportunity to focus on one subject (if possible) so that they can really do their best to make their classes interesting, meaningful and teach to the best of their capability. Of course if teachers prefer to have more than one course to teach they are more than welcome to do that as well. The administration tries their best to accommodate the wants of teachers including subjects and courses they want to teach and they allow and assist teachers to direct the extra-curricular activities of their choice. For example, the school has allowed my community service program to use the school van 2-3 times a week all year long to help the students go out in the community and help others. The Canadian Pre-U administration also determines teacher’s career goals and provides managerial opportunities to those that express interest and determination. The students in the program are used to the rote memorization of the Malaysian school system and really enjoy the more practical, interactive and university like style of the program which has students become successful through a myriad of assignments, activities, projects, tests, and exams. I have been working at this school for over five years and feel it is the best school I have worked for and would recommend it to any teacher with Ontario teaching certification.
What areas do you feel are in need of development?
Staff meetings tend to be repetitive. (Same set of staff meetings every semester).
What advice would you give to other teachers considering working at this school?
Excellent school! The only thing you may want to consider is if you want to live in Subang Jaya which is a suburb thirty minutes drive outside of Kuala Lumpur.
