The International School of Florence is one of the oldest international schools in Europe, with 2 campuses within the city of Florence. It offers a Junior School (Pre-School to Grade 5) and an Upper School (Grades 6 to 12). Students in Grades 11 and 12 are taught in IB Diploma classes The International School of Florence is granted full accreditation both by the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges. The school was founded in Rome in 1952, by Paul Burk-Mahony and Horace Gibson. After a few relocation, it moved to its current location at Via del Carota in Bagno a Ripoli in 1980.

At ISF, the students are encouraged to participate in Extra Curricular School activities. Apart from a large sports complex, the school facilities include science labs, a library, art studio and computer labs.

As a teacher, what are the major plus points for working here?
I would like to happily say that the International School Florence is the best school for its unique and creative teaching program. The practice teaching program is smaller than other programs and allows teachers to work with a small group of students at a time. There’s an observer as well as other teachers that will help you teach your class. The program offered here to teacher training is four weeks.
What areas do you feel are in need of development?
There is nothing negative I can comment about this place. There is no development needed. Though, minor note, the school needs to update their employment resource regarding the directory of international schools employment.
What advice would you give to other teachers considering working at this school?
If you’re a teacher from any country who loves exploration along with teaching, this is the place for you. There are many parks and serene areas that bring urban and the wilderness together. There are many field trips available and the program is amazing for teachers to become better in their field. My advice for teachers seeking to employee here is to go, so that you can have an amazing time as I have.
I certify that this review is my own opinion based on my personal experience of this school. I understand that International Schools Advisor may remove this review if it is found to be in breach of the site's Terms & Conditions.
