Jerudong International School is a well established school with a sound academic reputation. It provides a broad liberal education in the best traditions of independent schools. The School is a member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS). The Principal joined the executive committee of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) in 2008. The School is also a member of the Boarding Schools Association (BSA). In 2009, JIS became a full, accredited member of COBIS. JIS offers the British international curriculum and prepares students for GCSEs, IGCSEs, A-levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. n the Junior School, Early Years Students (Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception) follow the UK Early Years Foundation Programme. Years 1–6 study the new primary English National Curriculum which has been adapted to reflect the international, South East Asian context in which the School is located.

The Middle Years (Years 7-9) present the opportunity for students to explore the range of subjects based on but not limited by the British National Curriculum in a wide yet rigorous curriculum. Towards the end of the Middle Years, parents can, if they wish, enter their children into academic competitions such as that run by the University of New South Wales International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in four subjects - Computer Skills and English. JIS students who have entered these competitions have performed superbly.

The Upper Years (Years 10-13) are a time for preparing students for the British external examinations and assessment, yet exam results are not the sole focus. We want to nurture and develop students with a passion to learn about the world around them.

The final two years (Years 12& 13) present the opportunity to study for the academically demanding pre-University programmes. We offer the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education (A-levels) as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB). Both programmes are respected and recognised by the best Universities in the world studied over a two year period and offer students a wide range of subject choices. Students graduating in June 2014 at JIS have gone to some of the very best Universities in the world including Berkeley University, Stanford University, Cambridge University, LSE, Durham University. There is an experienced Higher Education Department who guide and assist students with the university application process throughout their pre-university years.

As a teacher, what are the major plus points for working here?
Amzing students, superb community and safe environment. Great opportunities to travel, with or without a family.
What advice would you give to other teachers considering working at this school?
School is fantastic and you will have many supportive colleagues. It's a great place, but socially you need to be proactive to get the best from life here. Be prepared to want to stay longer than your 2 year contract!

As a teacher, what are the major plus points for working here?
Brilliant kids. Community that is very respectful of the teaching profession. Safe environment for families and individuals. Exceptionally well resourced school: 700 seat theatre, 230 seat lecture theatre, state of art science labs, fabulous music facilities, 50 m pool. It is a very hard working environment that demands professional and committed approaches from its teachers (this is not a holiday in the sun; though the sun does shine on holidays in Brunei. Very dedicated staff that give a huge amount to secure the well being and success of the students in their care.
What areas do you feel are in need of development?
Brunei is a beautiful country, but not everyone's cup of tea. If wild nights out clubbing are your thing, you probably are not the right person to come here. Processes are slow, queuing at government buildings occupy weekends for the first month.
What advice would you give to other teachers considering working at this school?
Be prepared to work hard inside and outside the classroom. Enjoy the company of wonderful students. Apply early because demand for jobs is high.
