Atlanta International School is a private elementary, middle and high school in Atlanta, Georgia. An International Baccalaureate School, it was formed in 1984. Atlanta International School, nestled in the historic campus designed by Philip Shutze in the heart of Buckhead, is an educational blend of Atlanta's old tradition and the pioneering international strength of present-day Atlanta.

As the innovator of a global curriculum for future leaders, AIS offers a program of academic excellence to American and international students, beginning with three-year-old kindergarten and culminating in grade 12 with the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma.

We believe that encouraging each student to discover the intrinsic joy of learning and purposeful effort will help each one to set and achieve high academic standards. Furthermore, we believe it is vital to nurture mutual respect and understanding among all members of our community. Together we cultivate a spirited sense of hope in human potential. We believe the diversity of our community provides an extraordinary opportunity to enable our students to communicate, create, and collaborate in order to build a peaceful future.

As a parent, what are the major plus points for sending your child/children to this school?
Just the ability to maintain native-level French, German, or Spanish.
In what areas do you feel the school needs improvement?
Our daughter entered this school in the 5th grade after we had been relocated to Atlanta for work. She was bullied from the start by a very mean clique of extremely rich girls. Every time we approached someone in an official capacity we were told, "Well, those girls couldn't be doing that. Their parents are fine, upstanding members of the school community." Later we found out that these parents contribute large sums to the school's annual giving campaign every year. The quality of teachers was also sub-par. In 7 years at this school my daughter never had a decent teacher in either math or science. This unfortunately led to very low scores on those sections of the ACT. For the social, academic, and administrative reasons above, if you value your child's education, I would strongly encourage you to look at other private schools in Atlanta.
What advice would you give to other parents thinking about sending their child/children to this school?
Avoid this school at all costs. A public school would be a better option.
